Arriving by Foot

There is no really good walking route and it is advisable to take the bus from the station. Plenty of walking options once within the Culzean Castle grounds.

Arriving by Bike

There is no completely quiet route from Maybole to Culzean Castle and short sections on the main road are unavoidable, The A719 is not a very busy road but traffic does tend to travel at relatively high speed.

The mapped route leaves Maybole using National Cycle Route 7 then deviates along a quiet road to join the B7023 a couple of hundred metres from its intersection with the busier A719. This is followed by about 500 metres cycling on the A719 until a minor road appears on the right hand side next to a house on the corner. This quiet minor road is followed for a short distance then an exit taken to the left at a sharp bend to join a wide track that leads all the way to the Culzean Castle estate. Note that the forest track is only shown on Ordnance Survey maps, included in our downloadable route PDF below.

Nearest cycle parking

There are cycle locking racks mounted on the wall of the restaurant buildings at the Castle at the side by the car park.

Cycle carriage on trains

Trains from Glasgow Central to Maybole normally have storage for at least four cycles. A bicycle logo on the carriage entrance identifying where these are located on the train.

Nearby Cycle Routes

The National Cycle Route 7 passes through Maybole then heads in a more northerly direction towards Ayr.

Stagecoach No. 60 to Girvan via Maidens

Directions to the Bus Stop

The bus stop is across the road from the entrance to Maybole Station by the side of the small park. Take care because this stop is used by buses travelling in both directions as some buses do a loop beyond the stop and then came back in the opposite direction.In addition, there is no sign advising visitors as to which bus goes past Culzean Castle. Not all No. 60 do, so ensure that the No.60 via Maidens is boarded (check with the driver). There are covered bus stops at the entrance to Culzean Castle and it is a 10 minute walk from the main road to the buildings.
